When I was a girl my Mom called this cake “dump cake” and always made it in a glass dish. She probably called it dump cake because is so easy to make that you practically dump all the ingredients in and call it good. Everything melds together and makes the most delicious bites of cake, pudding, fruit and cool whip. So tasty.
The real treat of this dessert is that it looks stunning. So amazing that nobody can believe how easy it really is.
I made a large trifle and had some ingredients left over so I created several mini trifles. Can you imagine serving one of these to each of your dinner guests? So adorable! I know I will be doing that someday.
Here’s the recipe:
1 white box cake
1 tub (8 ounces) cool whip, thawed
1 large box vanilla pudding prepared and chilled
6 cups sliced strawberries
Bake cake according to directions on the box. Bake in a 13X9 pan and cool completely. Prepare and chill vanilla pudding. Slice strawberries and get all ingredients out and ready to assemble.
Begin by layering the strawberries in the bottom of the trifle dish. After that break up your white cake mix into large chunks and layer half of the cake on top of the strawberries. Press cake down gently with you hand to make a level layer. Next layers are half of the pudding mixture followed by a layer of cool whip, spread each layer evenly before placing the next layer on top. Repeat layers again ending with the cool whip layer.
Cover and place trifle in the fridge for several hours. Like I said before, when all the flavors mingle together things taste better.
This trifle will serve 10-15.
